Indigenous Peoples Day 2024 |
|
|
|
Monday, October 14th was Indigenous Peoples Day! We asked folks on Social Media to consider these questions from Tewa Women United: How has my family benefitted from the past and present colonization and genocide of the original peoples of these lands? How did my family gain access to originally Indigenous lands? What legacy does my family have in the role of colonization? How am I continuing to benefit from colonization today? |

Check out some of our blog posts from IDP:
Reclaim the Land: Dr. Kirsten C. Kunkle is lauded as the leading Native American soprano in today’s classical music world. Listen to her original composition, "Reclaim the Land," which was commissioned for the 150th anniversary of Yellowstone National Park.
Ay Ay Mama: Nayo Ulloa has been a dedicated player of the Peruvian flute (kena) as well as other Andean and Native flutes for over 50 years. Listen to his composition, "Ay Ay Mama," that asks the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth) for forgiveness for mistreating her and recommits to her healing.
A Letter on Indigenous Peoples Day: Eric Massanari (he/him) serves as the Executive Conference Minister for the Pacific Northwest Mennonite Conference (PNMC) of Mennonite Church USA. Eric wrote this letter to fellow PNMC ministry leaders on Indigenous Peoples Day (Oct. 14th). |

Landback Rematriation Fund with the Coalition to Dismantle the DoD |
|
|
| Dear Coalition friends and relatives.
I am proud to announce that we are launching our Rematriation: Landback program in November!
This program allows middle class families to participate in landback. Traditionally, land return has included major donors with significant wealth or those who have historical land to return.
The Coalition, in partnership with repair partners, now makes it possible for anyone to participate in land return by contributing to a collective fund. |
|
|
Families buying or selling homes can assess a tax on the sale and contribute to a collective fund – individuals can calculate regular rent – retirees with savings can contribute what feels reasonable. This fund will then be distributed to Indigenous partners so that they can buy the land that they identify, consistent with the needs of their communities.
To learn more, please come to our webinar on Nov 21, 2024 at 4pm PT / 5pm MT / 6pm CT / 7pm ET. Register for the link below. Please come with questions!

Coalition Board Game Night |
Did you know that the Coalition is working to create and produce a board game as part of our education efforts? You can read more about the beginning stages of the project here. We now need to raise a little more money to complete the final stages of development and so we are inviting all Repair Network congregations to host a fundraising board game night! |

This event could be as easy as setting a time, date, and location and inviting people to bring their favorite board games and make a donation to the Coalition’s board game project.
You might want to include a brief informational piece about the work of the Coalition in general and the board game project in particular or encourage discussions about colonial themes in some of the board games you might play. (See this article by Tim Nafziger on “Games for Fun and Liberation.”)
You could organize tournaments, have a board game auction, anything to have fun and raise awareness of and money for the board game project. |
You can make donations by check or through this link. Choose "Board Game Fund" from the dropdown menu to designate your donation. If you have any questions or would like some support for hosting an event, contact Matthew Carlson at matt31275@gmail.com. |

Creator, We remember the shadows of those who were taken, the stories hidden, the voices quieted. Hold close the ones who never returned and comfort those who still carry the weight. In silence, may healing come to all who suffer and may we walk gently toward truth and reconciliation. Guide us with wisdom to honor what was lost, and to nurture what can be restored. In the quiet of our hearts, we seek healing. Amen.

Resource Corner - Get your copy of Transformation
For this chapbook six activists, 3 Indigenous leaders and 3 White leaders, shared their experience with three stages of growth: crisis, the dark night, and transformation.
Bizzy Feekes, our artist in residence for 2023-24, created a visual art piece to go with each reflection. Bizzy’s internship concluded in May 2024. She remains with us in our hearts since her untimely death in July 2024. We miss you, Bizzy.
